Sauder Edge Water Lateral File Estate Black

The cabinet arrived in good shape although it was VERY heavy. Assembly time was reasonable. The unit looks just like the picture and I am very happy with it.

My husband put this together in about 2.5 hours. He's handy and good with that type of thing. During assembly, he actually said that it is overly complicated for something simple like a file cabinet. The use of dowels was not logical. In his words, he would not buy this again. In my view though, it looks great and functions well for the money. It is the best deal for lateral cabinets in this price range. One other thing to note though is the bottom of the cabinet drawers are weak. They're a little bit stronger than flimsy but not by much. I wouldn't feel comfortable putting anything in there that was heavier than a notebook or two.

I have ordered 2 Lateral Files and it came on Valentine's Day. I figured I can put these together quickly, since I am an expert Ikea Bookshelf builder. I carefully opened the packaging as I noticed some damaged corners - perhaps the items inside were ok? There were some edges that were carefully covered had come loose during shipping. The corners were definitely not protected - something that the Sauder company should look into.

All the 26 parts and hardware, as well as 7 different kinds of screws were all there. I had my straight edge and phillips screwdriver, as well as my hammer ready for assembly. As I carefully go through the manuals, it becomes a flip page action to figure out what parts/hardware/screws they were mentioned on the manual.
